Do You Still Recall The 2014 "Love The Gums You're With" Campaign?

Do You Still Recall The 2014 "Love The Gums You're With" Campaign?Maybe or not, you still remember the 2014 campaign on oral health named "Love The Gums You're With". Well, even if you can't recall it or you weren't born by that time, it is an event that has so much relevance today and in the future. As periodontal disease continues to rob many people of their oral health and beautiful smiles, it is imperative that we put more effort to curb it. It has always been said that prevention is better than cure, and this saying cannot go wrong for periodontal disease.

About Periodontal Disease

It begins with poor oral hygiene and neglecting to take your appointment with a dentist seriously. If you don't cleanse the mouth as advised by dental experts, you risk developing a gum infection. Gum disease starts with gingivitis, which is so mild that you may not know that it is harming your gums and teeth. Gingivitis presents with symptoms like bad breath, and gums that bleed while or after brushing and flossing. If you notice that the toothpaste you are spitting while brushing has blood in it, then it could be a case of gingivitis.

Left unchecked, it worsens and becomes a more serious infection. You notice inflammation of the gums, persistent bad breath, red and tender gums, or detached gums and tooth sensitivity. You can possibly reverse gingivitis if you receive treatment early. But for periodontitis, it cannot be reversed. A dentist will work to manage and control periodontitis. Receiving periodontal maintenance care is crucial too.

Focus of the "Love The Gums You're With" Campaign

The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) together with its over 8,300 members had three things to focus on regarding gum health. Through their campaign, they aimed at helping American families prevent periodontal disease. The campaign worked to see that people establish good oral hygiene habits. The key points were brushing twice a day, cleaning interdental spaces with floss on daily basis, and visiting a dental professional to discuss gum health. These three things apply even today and are so important to your oral health. Contact us to continue keeping this campaign theme alive by helping you maintain healthy gums and teeth.
