What Is the Right Way to Care for Dental Veneers?

Posted on 12/23/2021 by Evan
What Is the Right Way to Care for Dental Veneers?Dental veneers are a quick way to improve your smile. Dental veneers are thin covers of porcelain that are permanently bonded over your teeth to attain a more beautiful look and shape. Commonly used on front teeth, dental veneers help people achieve the smile they have long desired. If your teeth are chipped, misshapen, or you have an unsightly gap between your front teeth, dental veneers might be the cosmetic dentistry solution for you. However, it is important to take care of your veneers so they will last.

Tips for Dental Veneer Care

The most important thing you can do for your dental veneers and your other teeth is to brush your teeth daily. Brush your teeth twice a day, and remember to floss and rinse as well. Make sure to brush your teeth in a gentle manner, as aggressive brushing can damage veneers. It is not uncommon for us to see chipped or cracked veneers as a result of brushing too hard.

Caring for your body is also caring for your dental veneers. Avoid hard candy. Your body does not need the sugar, and you are at risk of chipping your dental veneer if you consume hard candy. Similarly, do not chew on ice cubes. This is another common cause of damage to dental veneers.

Lastly, be aware of foods, beverages, and lifestyle habits that could stain your veneers. Eat foods and drink beverages that will not stain your teeth. Also, do not use tobacco products and cigarettes as veneers could turn yellow over time.

Dental Veneers Can Look Good For a Long Time

Caring for your dental veneers is important. If you do so, through brushing and flossing as well as making positive lifestyle choices, you can enjoy your dental veneers for many years. With proper care, dental veneers can last ten years or more. Come and see us for more information on caring for your dental veneers.
