Ways of Ridding Your Mouth of Bacteria Each Day
Posted on 7/7/2020 by Metropolitan Dental Specialty Group
Bacteria are the cause of many of the negative dental conditions such as cavities tooth decay. Today we will be having a very important discussion involving dental hygiene. Practicing good oral hygiene eliminates the harmful bacteria that damage teeth and cause bad breath.
Brushing your teeth twice a day is the most important step in ensuring good oral hygiene, this is the equivalent of taking a shower. Brushing removes the build-up of plaque that can turn into tartar. Plaque is home to a large collection of bacteria and is something you definitely want to get rid of!
We recommend brushing both in the morning and at night for 2 minutes using ADA fluoride accepted toothpaste. An additional tip we'd also like to give is to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and brushing gently with that. Aggressive brushing wears down your enamel, making it counterproductive.
Brushing alone does not get rid of everything, however. Flossing once a day helps tremendously in getting rid of the plaque stuck between your teeth. Once you get into the habit of doing it, you will appreciate the exceptionally clean and rewarding feeling!
You might be groaning at the thought of taking the time to floss between each tooth, but flossing can only take you a minute to do which means between brushing and flossing, you are only losing 5 minutes a day in total. It does not sound nearly as bad when you put it that way we think!
If you are wanting a deep clean, there is no better way to do so than to book an appointment with us. A professional cleaning session from a dental hygienist will give you a fresh start with a perfectly clean mouth. From there, keeping the cleanliness up if you brush and floss daily should be easy, as long as you aren't living off of candy that is!
