Dental emergencies don't wait until a time that is convenient for you. If you suffer some type of dental issue, it is important to know how to handle it. These are some of the most common issues that may arise.A Knocked-Out ToothIf you suffer a knocked-out tooth, you should pick up the tooth by the crown, rinse off any dirt, and attempt to put it back in the socket. If it won't fit in the socket, place it in a cup of milk or tooth preservation cup, but never wrap it in anything. In order to save the tooth and have it successfully re-implanted, you should also visit our office within 30-60 minutes of the injury. A Broken ToothIf your tooth is broken, chipped, or cracked, the most important thing to do is not panic. If you aren't in any pain, you have time, but you should call our office and provide as much information as possible. After a consult, we'll be able to recommend a crown, filling, or extraction. Facial SwellingIf your face is swollen, you may be dealing with some type of dental infection. This could be an infection of the tooth, bone, or gums, and serious infections likely won't get better on their own. Don't wait, visit our office right away. Drink plenty of fluids, and don't lie flat on your back, even when you sleep. Biting PainIf your tooth hurts when you bite, you may be dealing with one of multiple issues. It could be cracked tooth syndrome, or you may be feeling the effects of bruxism. This isn't an emergency that requires immediate care, but you should make an appointment with our office within about a week for treatment. If you experience one of these or any other type of dental emergency, please give our office a call right away. We are here to help save your teeth. |
