Ways of Starting Conversations With Us When You Have Fears or Questions

Posted on 6/30/2019 by Jasmine Marshall
Ways of Starting Conversations With Us When You Have Fears or QuestionsAre you afraid of coming to see us? Do you have a lot of questions about the procedures we do or what is involved in a basic cleaning? If you've never been to a dentist before, it's natural to have a lot of questions or to have a fear of what you don't understand.

We've had patients who have all sorts of fears and anxiety about visiting us, but we're here to help you deal with those fears. The first step in doing so is to start a conversation about what you're feeling. Here are a few ways you can do that.

Ask Questions
Some people are hesitant to ask questions, but we really do welcome them. We want you to be comfortable with everything that's going on, but it's hard to be comfortable when you don't know what's about to happen. Ask what we're about to do. Ask us to explain the process. It's not any extra work or trouble for us.

Tell Us You Have Anxiety

If you have anxiety or fear of visiting us, let us know. We will be sure to take extra time explaining what a procedure involves or talking about the overall process. If you want us to take it extra slow, we can do that, too. We want to make sure your anxiety or fears don't take control.

Start with Your Phone Call
When you call to book your appointment, tell us that you have some fear or anxiety about coming in. That way, we can be sure to include some extra time in your appointment and prepare everything to make you extra comfortable. It may also be easier for you to voice your fears over the phone instead of in person.

For some, it is. For others, it may be easier for you to talk about your concerns once you're here. Either way, we hope you can overcome your fears and book an appointment with us.
