Do Not Let Bad Breath Pull You Down
Posted on 1/9/2023 by Evan
Bad breath is generally not a comfortable topic of conversation. This is because of the embarrassment it causes the person if someone points it out. If you have been suffering from bad breath and are not sure what is causing it, it is time to visit our professionals for a complete evaluation.
Understanding the Cause
A lot of the time bad breath is concealed or masked with any form of a breath mint, or sometimes even goes unnoticed, for long, until it is so bad you can sense it yourself. Usually, it is dispelled with more frequent brushing, flossing, and mouthwash gargles. However, when this does not solve the problem, there is the possibility of a deeper cause that needs to be addressed.
Treating the Cause With Periodontal Maintenance
Besides poor oral hygiene, which is a major cause, there are several other causes for bad breath. One of the best ways to counter bad breath is with regular periodontal maintenance. Periodontal maintenance is a procedure conducted by our professionals that entails a more elaborate cleaning of the oral cavity. This procedure is recommended for patients who suffer from periodontal disease.
The cleaning procedure begins with a “scaling and planing” which helps to remove plaque and tartar from the surface of the teeth adjoining the gums. The cause for the plaque and tartar is remnants of food and nicotine that gather or get coated on the teeth along the gum line. This buildup is also a fertile breeding ground for bacteria that cause the foul smell.
Once the tartar and plaque are removed, the gums are examined for any traces of pus and treated accordingly by our professionals. If the tartar and plaque are not removed regularly by us, it can lead to severe periodontal disease. If you haven't had your teeth and gums examined in a while, it is time to give us a call.
